Clan tag formatting guide
Your full name is for Discord; your tag is what enemies see. Most games allow 2–5 characters:
| Style | Example | Vibe |
|---|---|---|
| Brackets | [NV] Nova | Classic, clean |
| Pipes | |NV| Nova | Sharp, modern |
| Prefix dot | NV.Nova | Esports standard |
| All caps | NV NOVA | Bold, loud |
Pick a tag derived from your name (Nova → NV, Death Sentence → DS), keep it 3–4 characters, and make sure every member formats it identically. Consistency is what makes a tag look professional.
6 tips for picking together
- Vote as a squad. Everyone wears the name — everyone gets a vote. Majority rules, no dictators.
- Say it in comms. "Nice shot, [tag] Dave" should sound natural, not silly.
- Check it's not taken by a known team in your game's scene — awkward.
- Keep it timeless. Meme names age fast; you'll cringe in six months.
- Match your ambition. Competing in tournaments? Go elite. Casual stack? Go funny.
- Sleep on it. The name you love at 2 AM might horrify you at noon. Decide sober.

What makes a good clan name?
A good clan name is short, memorable, and unifies your squad's identity. It should look clean as a 2–4 character tag, sound intimidating or fun, and be something every member is proud to wear.
How long should a clan tag be?
Most games limit tags to 2–5 characters. Aim for 3–4 characters — long enough to be recognizable, short enough to read instantly in a kill feed.
Can I use special characters in clan names?
It depends on the game — many allow brackets, pipes and a few symbols in tags, while others restrict to letters and numbers. Test your tag in-game before finalizing.
Should our clan name match our playstyle?
It's a nice touch but not required. Intimidating names suit competitive teams, funny names suit casual squads. The most important thing is that all members actually like it.
